Requirements for Obtaining a Work Visa in Portugal

Portugal has gained significant popularity in recent years, becoming an attractive destination for working and living due to its culture, quality of life, visa costs, and growing economy.

As a member of the European Union, citizens from EU member states are free to work in Portugal without a work permit, but they must apply for a residence card within the first six months. However, non-EU citizens must obtain a visa to enter, stay, and work in Portugal.

Where is the visa process carried out, and what are the costs?

The visa process can be completed at a Portuguese consulate in the applicant’s country of residence or online via the official government portal: https://offline.sef.pt/foraPT.html

Once the application is submitted, processing typically takes two to three months. After obtaining the visa, the foreign worker or employer can apply for a work permit at the regional office or the local delegation of the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) by submitting the necessary documents. After submitting the full application, the work permit can take up to 60 days.

The visa application fee is €83, and the residence permit issuance for this type of visa costs €72.
